Teacher Commute Mood Swings

If you’re a teacher who travels between schools, you know the commute isn’t just about getting from point A to point B—it’s a whole emotional rollercoaster. Some days I feel like a motivational speaker in my car, and other days… well, let’s just say the glitter explosion from first period follows me right into the driver’s seat.
Here’s what those “commute mood swings” really look like:
Morning Drive: Optimistic & Over-Caffeinated ☀️

Coffee in hand, music turned up, and I’m ready to take on the world. My trunk is loaded with paint, paper, and who knows how many glue sticks. In this moment, I’m convinced today will be smooth, organized, and maybe even magical. (Spoiler: it rarely goes exactly that way.)
Midday Dash: Running on Snacks & Determination 🚗
Somewhere between school one and school two, I’m eating my lunch in the car—usually with paint on my sleeve. My thoughts sound like this: “Okay, deep breath. Don’t forget the scissors. Or the sketchbooks. Or your sanity.”
Afternoon Drive: The Crash 🌪️
By the time the last class ends, my cart looks like it survived a hurricane. My hair has glitter in it (again), and I’ve answered the question “Can I start over?” at least fifty times. That afternoon drive? It’s quiet. No music. Just me replaying the day and reminding myself that tomorrow, I get to do it all again.
End of the Day: Tired but Grateful 💛
Even with the chaos, the spills, and the endless commuting, there’s always a bright spot. A student smile, a piece of artwork they’re proud of, or that magical “I did it!” moment makes the drive home a little lighter.

Final Thoughts
Teacher commute mood swings are real. They’re messy, hilarious, sometimes exhausting—but they also remind me that this job is so much more than the miles I drive. Each trip is a chance to bring creativity and joy to a new group of kids. And honestly? That’s worth every single mile.
